Kim Poston is the STEM Curriculum Coordinator at The Carolina Academy in Lake City where she provides STEM professional development and facilitates curriculum development in science and mathematics. Prior to becoming a TCA faculty member, she was a regional coordinator and education specialist with STEM Centers SC where she developed and facilitated professional learning experiences for educators, provided instructional and leadership support to schools and districts, and promoted economic and workforce development in the local and regional STEM community. She began her career in education in 1985 as a classroom teacher and received several awards. She was one of five finalists in 1999 for South Carolina State Teacher of the Year, Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award, and Florence School District Two Teacher of the Year.

Kim has presented at the SCISA Conference, South Carolina Council for Teachers of Mathematics Conference, South Carolina Association of School Administrators Conference, South Carolina Middle School Association Conference, and the South Carolina ACT Conference. She has served on numerous statewide curricula writing committees. Kim is certified in mathematics education, elementary education, and gifted and talented education. She has her Read to Succeed endorsement and is a Google certified educator.

Session Description:
A benefit of critical thinking strategies is that students quickly develop independent thinking. This session will share some effective strategies for promoting critical thinking in students.
