I hope everyone is doing well! We must be proactive as we move through the next few weeks. We must take all precautions to keep everyone healthy and safe. Already, there has been 36 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Carolina to date. On Monday, our state suffered its first death from this terrible virus. I encourage you to continue to monitor updates from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC). You can refer questions to SC DHEC call line by calling 1-855-472-3432 every day 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.
As we look ahead, please note that next Tuesday, March 24th and Wednesday, March 25th the school will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for drop off / pick up days for student work at Carolina Academy. Students will drop off their completed work packets for the first 10 days. I understand that some students may not have finished all the first 10-day work, but we must prepare for the worst of this situation if we are not able to return to school.
eLearning/Distance Learning days allow us to extend learning into the home and keep everyone safe while under this mandated school closure. Our goal is to keep students learning! Teachers will be available to answer questions through either email, text messages, phone calls or some other means of communication during the normal school hours. Again, drop off boxes (by grade level) will be placed in the hallway for students to deposit the first 10-day round of work. A table will also be set up in the hallway (by grade level) with second round of 10-day work packets. The school building is open ONLY for drop off and pick up work, not to mingle or socialize. CA office staff will be available if needed otherwise please drop off, pick up work and exit the building. If you are sick and/or exhibit symp toms of sickness – do not come to the school!
During the closure, FTC is offering 60 days of free internet service and free installation to any home within FTC’s service are that meets the following criteria:
· The primary home of a student in kindergarten through high school, technical school, college or in graduate school;
· New customer that has not been an internet customer with FTC for the past 90 days;
· Primary home located in FTC’s service area.
FTC is making it easier to utilize the program by taking orders over the phone at 888-218-5050.
If we can return to school, make note that April 9th and April 10th will be full days with normal academic schedule. Easter Break will remain intact. Open House has been postponed. The Middle School trip to New York for this year has been cancelled. Please be patient as plans for refunds are currently being made by the TCA trip sponsors and the travel agency.
In closing, the school board will meet in April to determine the school calendar, the events and happenings for the remainder of our school year. Their decisions will be made based on the health and well being of everyone associated with the school. Please continue to check your emails and the school website daily. The Carolina Academy has been nominated for Best Preschool and Best Private School. People can nominate TCA every day if they want so while you’re checking the internet please go to the following link and vote for your school.
